Steeps and Peaks is a 3-day expert-level ski mountaineering course in Whistler with an ACMG-certified guide, built for strong backcountry skiers ready to move into remote, heavily glaciated alpine terrain. Over three days you'll cover glacier travel and crevasse rescue, route planning, steep snow climbing and skiing, and whiteout navigation - the full skill set for accessing serious alpine ski lines safely.

Our courses run at a maximum of 6:1 Student to Guide Ratio to ensure participants gain as much as possible from the course.

Prerequisites

AST 1 (or equivalent), alpine ski touring experience and strong ski ability (double black diamond runs).

Our Steeps and Peaks course focuses on travelling in alpine terrain and skiing interesting lines safely. This course focuses on glaciology, steep snow faces, avalanche assessment and group dynamics.

Day 1

Understanding the required gear
Understanding glacier, and alpine environment, crevasse formation, bergschrund formation.
Roping up for glacier travel, up/down
Whiteout navigation

Day 2 & 3 – Alpine objectives

Route planning
Snow stability forecasting
Steep snow climbing/descending
Steep ski techniques

This is an expert-level course, not an intro. You'll need AST 1 (or equivalent), real alpine ski touring experience, and the ability to confidently ski double black diamond terrain - the course moves fast into remote, exposed terrain and assumes you already have the fitness and technical base to be there.
